  5. I have a 4k Freesync monitor, so it will go from 40-60 Hz. I just built a fantastic new 1800x Ryzen rig with all the best. I have been waiting for months and months for the Vega 64 Liquid cooled. Then they said it would be $699 when we all know it's price should be $599. I was still going to buy it. Then I waited some more. Then I went everywhere I could the nano-second the cards were released and could not source one. After a couple more days I just gave up. They bungled this launch so hard, and I am all for AMD ... I caved. If I was going to spend $700+ for a Vega 64, I might as well plunk down an extra $100 to get the fastest consumer card I could. I bought an MSI 1080 ti Seahawk (liquid hybrid) to keep the noise down like the Vega. It's not going to freesync, but that should be less of an issue with a 1080ti. By the time they have high refresh rate 4K monitors that this card won't drive, maybe AMD will have their act together. I'll be happy to follow up on my level of satisfaction. I've never purchased an NVIDIA aftermarket card before. Always been ATI/AMD.

  9. I'm in the same predicament. I recently bought the C32GH70 (HDR/144hz/Freesync2/1440p) Monitor & now I never want to play games in 1080p, because it looks terrible stretched out on a 2560x1440 display. So all games I must now run @ 2k. Unfortunately, I have to compromise on settings details to stay above 60fps @ 1440p. I want to get over 100FPS on High detail! (for at least a few years to come). Making matters worst my new PC only has an i5-7400... So I'm hoping I can just toss the RX480 (but keep the i5-7400, until I build a new PC, years to come), and get either a 1080ti or Vega64 until then?

  11. Depends how desperate are you to buy a new card. I would avoid reference design, because are often inferior to custom cards. So if you can wait till September, grab Vega, otherwise find a cheap 1080 Ti and you should be just as happy. Also take freesync frequency range into consideration. Not all monitors are the same.

Guy am in a fix here, I recently bought a samsung 100hz curved UWQHD monitor. so am back in the market to upgrade my GPU from RX 480 to a capable one. am currently waiting for the RX Vega 64 air cooled. The problem is that if it sells above $499 should I consider GTx 1080ti instead? , will freesync be an issue for 1080ti at max settings.

    TWO free games! Don't buy one.... Credit to WhyCry who pointed out that Humble is offering the excellent Shadow Warrior: Special Edition (2013) gratis, normally retails for $49.99/£39.99 - yup pricey even after all this time. Special Edition includes: Serious Sam 3 Sledgehammer, Hotline Miami Katana, Shadow Warrior Digital Artbook, Shadow Warrior OST. Log in to Humble, add to cart, upon completion you'll get your code to redeem on Steam. You'll love this action shooter because it's funny, violent, offering good variety to gameplay, more difficult than most games but still enjoyable such is its 90's heritage. Purely my own opinion, I found it was a better game than Shadow Warrior 2 where some love was lost in level design and enemies. That's not to say it was a bad game at all but different in that respect. Get another free anyway... Next deal is one was made free a fortnight ago. Despite its 1997 release, this is one classic game that sits well alongside Doom, Quake, Duke Nukem, Wolfenstein. Shadow Warrior Classic is a violent shooter that retro gamers of that era will love and you can get that free direct from Steam and/or GOG (here). If you found the controls and graphics were a little dated for your liking, you could pop Shadow Warrior Classic Redux on your wishlist. However, I would still recommend you play the original to appreciate the series. Shadow Warrior series has plenty of Easter eggs to satisfy completionists out there, enjoy!
  17. Well, just to update what happened in case anyone would be interested: Komplett.no service verified the card, and yes - I will be returned the original sum I payed! The answer was that no matching card exists, so I got refunded 3499,- NOK (425 USD). Now I'm not entirely sure whether I should buy an overpriced, used R9 390/395 or RX 580 to replace my now lost R9 390, to start mining Ethereum - OR if I should keep the money and instead spend it on a Vega XT when available. (I think I'm leaning to the latter, though... Makes more sense today, doesn't it? Even though I have a computer laying with an i5 3570k to start mining...)

  21. 5 years of warranty is really good. I wasn't expecting that you are still covered by warranty at this point. I don't think overclocking is a problem, otherwise Sapphire would not offer TRIXX software for this very purpose. Also, I would be surprised if they still had a replacement. Gaming Hawaii is EOL.
  22. Those are actually really good suggestions! I will try them out tomorrow, indeed. Though I do believe it to be hopeless, as there doesn't seem to be any current going through the card at all - no fans, no light, no warmth. On the other hand, I talked to my colleagues at the support og the hardware shop where I work. They were pretty certain I can send it for repair, and have it covered by the guarantee. (Garanti/reklamasjon in Norway is pretty good, in total it covers all electrics for 5 years). Given they don't *test* for overclocks, but how would they do that on a supposedly dead card? Also, that's why I won't try your suggestion of removing the fan, as I believe I will actually get a new one for free if I don't screw up God I hope Vega succeeds... Let's pray drivers rise performance in general by 50%
  23. Have you tried booting with integrated GPU or with secondary GPU to see if the 390 is even detected in the system? Such errors are either very easy to fix or your card is simply dead. Maybe there's a problem with the power cable from PSU? You can try removing the cooler and looking for blown capacitors, any spots something could've burned etc. Maybe it has dual-BIOS so you can see if the primary got corrupted? Just throwing ideas. BTW I wonder how Vega will perform in R6 Siege
  24. Cheers! I feel this might be a better forum to ask than for instance on Toms Hardware. So I've had my R9 390 for what... Two years now? I have had a steady overclock on it for a long time, but about a month or so ago, it started failing on me. The card would go really hot (actually not that extreme, core temp said about 80C, but the back of the card felt way hotter), so my solution was to go back on stock clocks AND to make a custom fan curve, where the fans would go to 100% at around 72C core temp. That was the only way to keep it stable, after extensive testing. BUT now, just two days ago, the GPU crashed while playing R6 Siege. When trying to reboot, there was so signal - fans were not spinning, and the little blue sapphire logo on the side didn't light up. I swapped it for a R9 280 I had laying, and that did work. So my question here now is - do you think I could try some stuff out to breathe life back into the R9 390? I'm going to buy some AMD Vega card when released, but I was actually planning on using this R9 390 for mining. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!
